Green Star FAQs
Does there need to be 500cm2 of soil surface area per every 10m2 section of nominated area?
No. Whilst the intention is to have plants evenly distributed throughout the floorplate of a building, it is not a requirement that there be 500cm2 of soil surface area in every 10m2 of nominated area.
Compliance can be demonstrated by showing that the total percentage of soil surface area within each 'distinct zone' of the nominated area meets the following requirements:
Rating Tool | Credit | % Soil Surface Area |
Green Star Interiors Green Star Design & As Built |
12.3 Indoor Plants 30A Innovative Technology or Process - Indoor Plants |
0.5% |
Green Star Buildings v1 | Plants criteria under the Connection to Nature Credit | 0.33% |
When demonstrating compliance in this way, it is up to the project team to identify these 'distinct zones' within the scope of the project and show that a considered approach to evenly distribute indoor plants has been taken.
