Green Star FAQs
Are there alternative separation distances for Class 2 and Class 3 buildings?
Yes.
Class 2 and Class 3 buildings may target the Ventilation System Attributes criterion in Minimum Expectation under the Clean Air credit from Green Star Buildings v1 by using the following minimum separation distances.
Airflow rate within the minimum distance (L/s) |
Minimum separation distance from discharges to intakes, or natural ventilation opening of adjacent Sole Occupancy Unit, or site boundary (m) |
Minimum separation distances from discharges to intakes, or natural ventilation opening within Sole Occupancy Unit (m) |

Note 1: Where no gas cooking infrastructure exists in the units or adjacent units/common areas, separation distances for flow rates <200L/s within Sole Occupancy Units may be considered 'Not Applicable'.
For the purposes of determining the separation distances required, projects are to use the total flow rate from each individual exhaust system. An individual exhaust system means that there is no mixing of air with any other exhaust air flows within the building envelope (i.e. install baffle separators behind common grilles so that the systems operate and discharge independently). Where exhaust is mixed (e.g., toilet + kitchen exhaust), the combined total exhaust flow rate must be used.
