Green Star FAQs
Can projects include non-irrigated landscape under the Landscape Irrigation section of the Potable Water Calculator?
Yes.
Where a landscape zone does not require irrigation, project teams may include this zone under section 5 'Landscape Irrigation' of the Green Star - Design & As Built Potable Water Calculator and nominate a negligible crop coefficient to represent the non-irrigated zone.
The GBCA clarifies that the intent is to recognise projects that select water-efficient landscaping, which, for example, may include selecting plant species that require no irrigation. Note that non-vegetated landscape areas such as astroturf or rubber matting cannot be included.
All claims/inputs entered into the Potable Water Calculator must be supported and evidenced in the submission.
For noting:
Section 9.2 of the Potable Water Calculator Guide states that “All landscaped areas in the project that are to receive water via irrigation should be divided into zones; each zone should have the same soil type, irrigation system, microclimate, plant density and as far as possible, types of plants.”
The GBCA clarifies that this statement is to be understood as 'different types of vegetated areas should be entered into the calculator as separate zones', rather than 'only areas which receive water can be entered'.
