Green Star FAQs
Does the GBCA accept carbon offsets?
Yes, where credits in Green Star allow the use of carbon offsets the GBCA will accept electricity and nature based offset initiatives that have been certified by the standards and labels listed within the Carbon Positive Buildings and our Net Zero Ambitions document. For note, this list is not exhaustive and may expand as further certification bodies are recognised.
The document also outlines which credits can use offsets and how they should be applied.
If a project has engaged offsets approved through an alternate certification scheme that is believed to be of similar or greater integrity the GBCA invite the project team to submit this as a Technical Question.
Credible carbon standards & labels currently recognised by the GBCA can be found within the Carbon Positive Buildings and our Net Zero Ambitions document.
This document can also be found through the Green Star Resources portal.
