Green Star FAQs
If a residential project's HVAC system doesn't have a star rating, can it comply with the NatHERS pathway?
Yes. Projects targeting the NatHERS pathway in the Greenhouse Gas Emissions credit from Green Star - Design & As Built that have air conditioning equipment which isn't covered by the star rating system (AS3823.2-2011 or AS 3823.2-2013, whichever is applicable) or are targeting the Residential pathway in the Energy Use credit from Green Star Buildings v1 and have a cooling system not listed under the Building Services Requirements may comply with the 'Ventilation and Air Conditioning' credit element for spaces with mechanical cooling by demonstrating that:
- The required minimum energy efficiency ratio for packaged air conditioning equipment and refrigerant chillers is at least 15% higher than what is specified in:
- NCC Tables J5.4d and J5.4e; or
- MEPS, where Section J does not apply to the equipment
capacity.
The above requirements are as per the Prescriptive Pathway in the Greenhouse Gas Emissions credit from Green Star - Design & As Built.
All HVAC equipment that is covered by the star rating system (AS 3823.2-2011 or AS 3823.2-2013) or are listed under the Building Services Requirements if targeting Green Star Buildings v1 must meet the compliance requirements set out in targeted rating tool.
