Sustainable Built Environment: Australian and Hong Kong’s perspectives

Australia and Hong Kong are two Asia Pacific regions with divergent building characteristics but they share a common goal of striving for a low-carbon future in the building construction and real estate sector.

Australia leads the world in real estate sustainability, with their property companies topping the results of the GRESB Real Estate Assessment ranking for 11 consecutive years.  In GRESB, Hong Kong’s companies are also frequently named global leaders in the “Mixed Use” sector as the city is famous for its mega-sized multi-function developments.

To foster cross-regional exchange of knowledge and best practices, Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) and Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) are delighted to hold this joint webinar in which we will share with the audience the key characteristics of the two regions’ green building markets, the latest developments in their green building rating tools as well as the upcoming challenges.

About Jeff

Jeff is responsible for ensuring high levels of satisfaction and engagement across the GBCA's broad member base of members across the country. This includes raising awareness of GBCA activities and working with members to engage most effectively in this. He also sits on the World Green Building Council's Asia Pacific Network Advisory Board.

About Eddy

Ir Dr Eddy Lau is a building services engineer by profession. He also possesses a PhD in Business Administration and his PhD research was on the driving forces for product evolution in the property development sector. Ir Dr Lau is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE). He has written more than 20 articles for the HKIE Journal. He currently works as the Head of Green Labelling at the Hong Kong Green Building Council, responsible for managing the BEAM Plus scheme. Outside work, he gives regular guest lectures on green building policy for Hong Kong University’s Master of Science in Urban Planning.
